Bald Eagles in Mid-Air Chase
“Tagged” Fishing can be very serious business here in the Pacific Northwest. Every Summer, eagles congregate in an area where fish spawn in the oyster beds. There can be a lot of action at times, with around 60 eagles and 40 herons plus crows and seagulls, all competing for fish in one creek bay. Eagles often try to intimidate each other into dropping their catch. The chase pictured here lasted for several minutes, culminating with the middle eagle grabbing the lead eagle’s tail. It’s never boring watching these magnificent birds in flight.
